Latest funding cuts impact modern slavery support
Government accused of undermining the fight against labour abuses after £2m real-terms cut to GLAA budget
The Home Office has cut funding for the UK’s modern slavery watchdog in a move that leaves workers more at risk. Cutting the Gangmasters and Labour Abuse Authority (GLAA) budget means there is less resource to prevent and detect modern slavery, lead investigations into the crime, and protect workers who are being exploited. It comes as the office for the Independent Anti-Slavery Commissioner has also had its funding reduced, with further cuts pending.
